"As someone who has struggled to maintain a healthy weight and BMI my entire life - childhood through adulthood, I have tried many different strategies to be healthy and fit, and feel good about my body image.
While there is definitely merit to typical strategies - portion control, physical activity, quality food choices - they would only get me so far towards my goals.
If I maintained strict adherence and extreme will power, I would see transformation in my body - inches melt, increased muscle tone, improved blood labs at my physicals for cholesterol, etc. However, these results required extreme adherence - no room for living life, no room for a cheat meal or a cheat day, no room for an occasional treat. This meant preparing double meals - the steamed lean protein and vegetables for myself and a balanced meal that my family would eat, which may include a healthy grain or carbohydrates in a marinade. Not only did I not have the time to create double meals daily, this way of eating deprived me of enjoying the experience of eating. Even as a young adult, the only way to create meaningful change was to practice clean keto. Anyone who's experienced with keto understands it's incredibly effective, but it's not long-term sustaining.
I grew tired of restricting my diet. I grew tired of the relentless food prep. I grew tired of following 'doctor's orders' only to gain partial results and plateau, not meeting my goals.
